Tellings ACORN's Side of the Story in the face of a maelstrom

About 2 weeks ago the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) came to KCSA Strategic Communications for crisis communications assistance.  ACORN is currently the most controversial community organization in the country.

For about 2 weeks ACORN has been at the core of the debate over potential voter registration fraud, and until retaining KCSA, was not getting its side of the story out effectively.

Starting with addressing the media onslaught from Fox News, which quickly spread to CNN, and the rest of the mainstream media, KCSA agressively began courting the media to give equal time for ACORN and its Chief Organizer, Bertha Lewis.

We initially began our outreach to the leading print media publications, Newsweek, the New York Times, The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, etc.

After setting up conversations with Clarence Page, Jonathan Alter, and David Broder, the tide slowly began to turn.

We were able to get Bertha Lewis on CNN's Larry King Live.

We were able to secure an interview on C-SPAN

Then last night the positive messages from ACORN really broke through.

Both Countdown with Keith Olberman and the Rachel Maddow Show did significant segments on the story.

After repeated conversations with producers for both shows, after supplying them with ACORN's data, side of the story, and point of view, Olbermann and Maddow both used the talking points KCSA created, and both referenced materials we had submitted to the show.

Most importantly, Maddow has Jonathan Alter on as a guest.  Alter clearly articulated the ACORN side of the story and referenced his conversation with Bertha Lewis, which we coordinated, in his interview.

Were we effective?  Watch for yourself and decide.
